Saturday, March 13 Workshops:
"Shoop's Sweat Shop"
12:30 - 2:30pm :: $35 per class or $60 for both pre-reg/$40 per class at door
Would you like to take your dance to a different level? Challenge yourself physically and mentally? Come work it out with Heather Shoopman in this fun packed class of drills, thrills and bumpin' loud~n~dirty bass! Explore each territory of the body for all it's worth. Improve your muscle memory with layers, locks and ooey-gooey goodness. Strengthen and condition those muscles as we experiment with momentum and get crazy with the layers. Be ready to sweat, laugh and holler. Can I get a woooot woooot?
"Tribal Fusion Shoop Style"
3 - 5pm :: $35 per class or $60 for both pre-reg/$40 per class at door
Ready to mix it up? Add an edgy, funky flavor to your bellydance with Heather Shoopman's unique style of tribal fusion blending elements of American and Indian dances. You will learn "ShOOp style" embellishments and a signature combo, which comes complete with a cue for easy incorporation into your group improvisation or choreography. Set to an eclectic music mix, this workshop will leave you inspired! Be prepared to work hard and have fun!

Heather Stants, founder and director of Urban Tribal Dance Co., is famous for bringing fluidity and expression together with sharp street styled isolations to form a uniquely seamless blend of grace and funk. The Oasis is very excited to host Heather in what promises to be an Uber-Amazing Urban Saturday!
Saturday, April 10 Workshops:
"Moving from the Core: Connecting to the Core for More Powerful Movements"
12:30 - 2:30pm :: $35 per class or $60 for both pre-reg/$40 per class at door
Through years of training in dance, pilates and yoga Heather has developed a strong technique and practice. In this class, students will be lead through exercises, drills and movements that exemplify Heather's approach to powerful and expressive movement. Please bring a yoga mat.
"Creative Dance Composition for Improvisation & Choreography"
3 - 5pm :: $35 per class or $60 for both pre-reg/$40 per class at door
Students will be lead through exercises to stimulate creativity and aid in the creation of group dances. We will explore a variety of styles of staging and dance composition. Please bring kneepads.

The Oasis is very excited to host April Rose! This amazing gal has been belly dancing Tribal Fusion and Egyptian Cabaret for over 9 years, and is a member of the award winning, world-touring troupe UNMATA (under the direction of Amy Sigil). She is currently earning her bachelors degree in World Dance at UCLA and has performed across the country and abroad in Taiwan.
Saturday, May 1 Workshops:
"Movement Patterns"
12:30 - 2:30pm :: $35 per class or $60 for both pre-reg/$40 per class at door
How many circles can be embedded in a single move? We will start with a familiar shape like the figure 8, add more figure 8's in other parts of our body, stack on some footwork and floor patterning, direct our gaze and move multi-directionally: challenging our flexibility, muscularity, mind-patterning-skills, and discovering fluidity through rich, complex movement.
"Work It Out, Get It Down"
3 - 5pm :: $35 per class or $60 for both pre-reg/$40 per class at door
Learn a piece of choreography by drilling the movement, repeating the sequence, and filling it out -with strong lines and purposeful arms. Ever been to a dance audition and walk out frustrated with your inability to quickly acquire and remember the combination? Come practice picking it up and getting it down (while rocking out and working it)!

Join us for more "Lush Cabaret & Balkan Ruckus" including (but not limited to) belly dance, cabaret performance, Romany music, foppish occultism, unapologetically pretentious Belle Epoque café living, goodwill, bad behavior, misappropriated pop songs, and the horribly misguided notion that one can try and squeeze an entire Balkan brass band into one accordion.

The Oasis is your Southern California connection for classes with Carolena Nericcio, founder & director of FatChanceBellyDance. August brings our annual week-long intensive with Pimp Masta 'C', now offering 20 hours of General Skills for ATS (includes NEW Floorwork Section!) and 10 hours of ATS Teacher Training 1.
General Skills for ATS ~ $800 per student ($250 deposit holds your spot!)
Sunday - Wednesday ~ August 8 - 11, 2010
A now 20-hour intensive presenting all 70+ steps from the FCBD ATS vocabulary along with cues, formations, lead and follow, chorus, music theory for ATS and functional anatomy for dance - Includes NEW floorwork section! Students must attend all 20 hours, no exceptions. Certificate awarded upon completion. Four 5-hour days with 2 hours total for breaks, lunch and drills, seven studio hours daily. Limited to 25 students.

One Day Pass with Drills* ~ $200 per student (Payment due in full upon registration)

For previous graduates of GS for ATS wanting a review, or students who are not interested in being Certified. Attend single days of GS for ATS (including new floorwork section). Need not be taken concurrently but students must understand that each successive day's material is built on the previous day(s) and they may be asked to take a less active role based on our assessment of their skill level. One, two, three or four of the GS for ATS 5-hour days. If you are interested in just the floorwork section, choose Day Four for your One Day Pass with Drills. One Day Pass with Drills is as space allows within the 25 student limit for General Skills. *PLEASE CONTACT THE OASIS DANCE STUDIO FOR ONE DAY PASS AVAILABILITY AND REGISTRATION.
ATS Teacher Training 1** ~ $700 per student ($250 deposit holds your spot!)
Thursday & Friday, August 12 & 13, 2010
For graduates of GS for ATS who are also teaching or performing other styles of Tribal, Tribal Fusion or Oriental Dance. Curriculum will include instruction on how to present the concept of ATS, the steps, verbal instruction, physical cueing, assessing students needs, answering common questions, structuring a class and troubleshooting. Limited to 10 students.
**This training is stage one for teachers interested in becoming a FCBD Sister Studio. Sister Studios teach exclusively FCBD format. Students need approval from Carolena to be considered for Sister Studio status.

Some Helpful Information:
Class fees do not include travel or accommodations, or meals. Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements. International students must be proficient in English, or must supply their own interpreter. Any student not attending all required hours of class will not be certified.
Breaks & Lunch times are per Carolena's discretion. The Oasis Dance Studio is located near many restaurants within walking distance and a Stater Bros. grocery store. Light snacks, fruit and water will be provided by The Oasis for students to enjoy. If you have special dietary needs, it is recommended you bring your own food and/or drinks.
Nearest Airports: ONT (Ontario, California) Aprox. 30 miles; LAX (Los Angeles, California) Aprox. 85 miles.
Ground Transport: Airport shuttles and rental cars are the best options. Public Transportation is available via train and/or bus, but is not convenient.
