August brings our annual week-long FCBD intensive, now offering 20 hours of General Skills for ATS (includes NEW Floorwork Section!) and 10 hours of ATS Teacher Training 1.

General Skills for ATS ~ $800 per student (Payment due in full upon registration)
Sunday - Wednesday ~ August 8 - 11, 2010

A now 20-hour intensive presenting all 70+ steps from the FCBD ATS vocabulary along with cues, formations, lead and follow, chorus, music theory for ATS and functional anatomy for dance - Includes NEW floorwork section! Students must attend all 20 hours to be certified, no exceptions. Certificate awarded upon completion. Four 5-hour days with 2 hours total for breaks, lunch and drills, seven studio hours daily. Limited to 25 students.

One Day Pass with Drills* ~ $200 per student (Payment due in full upon registration)

For previous graduates of GS for ATS wanting a review, or students who are not interested in being Certified. Attend single days of GS for ATS (including new floorwork section). Need not be taken concurrently but students must understand that each successive day's material is built on the previous day(s) and they may be asked to take a less active role based on our assessment of their skill level. One, two, three or four of the GS for ATS 5-hour days. If you are interested in just the floorwork section, choose Day Four for your One Day Pass with Drills. ATS Teacher Training 1** ~ *SOLD OUT!*
Thursday & Friday, August 12 & 13, 2010

For graduates of GS for ATS who are also teaching or performing other styles of Tribal, Tribal Fusion or Oriental Dance. Curriculum will include instruction on how to present the concept of ATS, the steps, verbal instruction, physical cueing, assessing students needs, answering common questions, structuring a class and troubleshooting. Limited to 10 students.

**This training is stage one for teachers interested in becoming a FCBD Sister Studio. Sister Studios teach exclusively FCBD format. Students need approval from Carolena to be considered for Sister Studio status.

Class fees do not include travel or accommodations, or meals. Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements. International students must be proficient in English, or must supply their own interpreter. Any student not attending all required hours of class will not be certified.

Breaks & Lunch times are per Carolena's discretion. The Oasis Dance Studio is located near many restaurants within walking distance and a Stater Bros. grocery store. Light snacks, fruit and water will be provided by The Oasis for students to enjoy. If you have special dietary needs, it is recommended you bring your own food and/or drinks.

Nearest Airports: ONT (Ontario, California) Aprox. 30 miles; LAX (Los Angeles, California) Aprox. 85 miles.

Ground Transport: Airport shuttles and rental cars are the best options. Public Transportation is available via train and/or bus, but is not convenient.

An Intimate Weekend with Frederique!

Known for her avant garde performance style and detail-oriented instruction, Frederique comes once again to The Oasis to share her ever-evolving urban bellydance with her So. Cal fans.

Saturday, September 11 Workshops:

"Charm Arms"
12:30 - 2:30pm :: $35 per class or $90 for all 3 pre-reg/$40 per class at door

Learn Frédérique's individual and unique approach to arms, upper-body gesticulation, and more importantly, exploration to help you find your own style through your frame work.  Arms are your opportunity to apply your personality and expression through dance. Often the focus is on your hips and abdominals in your belly dance training. This workshop will be a different approach to your training. The focus will be all arms with torso, shoulders, and head subtleties for defined and/or refined expression.  One of the final frontiers in dance expertise are hands, right down to your finger tips. Frédérique has ample knowledge to share with you on your awareness of hand and finger placement. In this workshop, we will work on obtaining elegance, and grace for a polished look to your individual style. Strengthening, emotional expression, and drills specifically developed and designed by Frédérique. Class begins with a short lecture and ends with Q and A. *This is a mixed level class

"Tribal Fusion Choreography for Duets" (So bring a partner! But you don't have too...)
3pm - 5pm :: $35 per class or $90 for all 3 pre-reg/$40 per class at door

Frederique has choreographed a Tribal Fusion piece for duets to use as inspiration, or directly as you'll learned it for performance...  It's replete with her unique fusion style along with some old-timey ATS inspired favorites. Music used in class is mixed and edited by Frederique; You will be able to purchase the track after the workshop to keep. *For skill levels: 2 - 3

Sunday, September 12 Workshop:

"Pop This 'n' Lock That"
12:30 - 2:30pm :: $35 per class or $90 for all 3 pre-reg/$40 per class at door

This class will guide and drill you through the fundamentals of what "pop 'n' lock" means, and applying it to your dance through resistance and control. Pop 'n' locking is not just about slamming parts of your body from one place to another. The intricacies and detailed control of your body is what Frédérique will go over in order for you to get the most out of the technique. There is a difference between what a pop is, and what a lock is, and Frédérique will lecture on what those differences are and how and when to use them along side the music for full articulation and fulfillment.  Class begins with a short lecture and ends with Q and A. *For skill levels: 2 - 3

Robyn of Tsingani has spent years teaching yoga with chakras in mind and now it has spread to her bellydancing.  Come to learn about chakras, how to activate them through dance, and learn some chakra-inspired combos.

Special 3-day Workshop Intensive
with Ariellah!

Goth Goddess Ariellah haunts The Oasis once again ~ This year offering a very special 3-day intimate boutique-sized (20 student limit!) workshop intensive! Ariellah will be offering 3 special classes to aid the student in mastering their technique and their personal goals, building a solid foundation in belly dance, and developing their artistic, creative side. The Oasis can't wait to have her back!

About Ariellah: Ariellah is an international modern, belly dance performer and instructor. She has an extensive dance background that includes strict classical ballet training for 12 years with the Royal Academy of Dance from London. She has studied and performed belly dance for the past nine years. She began her training with Janine Ryle of Danse Mahgreb and is a founding member of The Indigo with Rachel Brice. Most recently Ariellah began training in classical Indian Odissi dance, studying in India at the Shakti School of Dance. Her style infuses many genres of dance, all with a modern dark flavour that is uniquely her own. She is featured on the first of its kind "Gothic BellyDance" DVD and has also released her first instructional DVD: "Contemporary Bellydance & Yoga Conditioning with Ariellah".

Friday, November 19 Workshop:

"Drawing Down the Moon: Drawing Inward, Reflecting Outward, Building Expression & Cultivating Creativity"
6 - 8pm :: $50 for this class; or $200 for all 3 classes

What moves your soul? Why do you dance? Who or what is your muse or inspiration? What do you want to tell the world? What do you have to offer up? And who are you and what do you want to express? These are the myriad of questions we must ask ourselves in order to dance with more intention and as artists, give of ourselves to the dance, to ourselves, and to the audience. Gain knowledge and tools that can spark your creative side and work through expressive and fluid movements with Ariellah in this intense and creative workshop. *This is a mixed level workshop*

Saturday, November 20 Workshop:

"At the Heart of It All"
Noon - 4pm :: $100 for this class; or $200 for all 3 classes

At the heart of it all is convergence of dance, technique, flexibility, strength, mind, spirit and art. Train your mind with technique, train your heart to dance and all else will fall in place. In this dance training course emphasis will be placed on the combination of not only technique but an equal counterpart of dance expression. Creative processes and internal work written and oral will also be discussed. The workshop will include an intensive technique and body conditioning section. This mini intensive course is designed to give the dancer the encouragement and tools necessary to take home and incorporate into his or her own practice in order to reach the next level, the next challenge. *This is a mixed level workshop*

Sunday, November 21 Workshop:

"Super Strength & Slinky Combos"
10am - Noon :: $50 for this class; or $200 for all 3 classes

Learn the basics of Ariellah's style of fusion belly dance by strengthening the body, as well as refining technique. Dancers will work through concepts such as fluidity, agility and muscular isolation. This workshop offers uncommon exercises and fusion style combinations to gain a firmer grasp on the more lyrical facet of belly dance. *This is a mixed level workshop*
