Classes meet once a week and are organized in 6-week sessions. Instruction focuses on learning belly dance movements and technique. Classes may include choreography, and also include instruction on improvisation, cultural history, costuming, and performance dynamics. Classes descripts below are in week day and time order. Above all, bellydance should be fun! Oasis Dance Studio emphasizes a supportive and joyful teaching style. Some comments from students: "This is the most fun I have all week!" **Special Class** This special 1-hour PILATES MAT class is a class for dancers or ANYONE wanting to get in excellent shape, and who wish to improve core strength, range of motion, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Exercises and movements are performed on a mat, focusing on "CORE CONDITIONING": The strengthening and stabilization of the abdominal, spine and pelvis. This is a beginning fundamental level class - ALL are welcome. Please bring your own mat and theraband (if you have them), as a limited supply will be available at The Oasis. |

Introduction to Tai Chi with Cheyenne Learn basic tai chi movement and breathing techniques. Students will improve balance and core strength, and reduce stress. Class will focus on the Yang Short Form of Tai Chi. Fee $60/session, $12 drop-in. |

Strong to the Core with Politti Ashcraft This unique class begins with an energizing Pilates Mat based workout focusing on "core conditioning": the strengthening and stabilization of the abdominal, spine and pelvis. After our "mat-work", we will finish the class with isolated bellydance moves, from our head to our toes, to increase each dancers' strength, flexibilty, coordination and muscle tone. Please bring your own Yoga mat and Thera-Band (if you have them) as a limited supply will be available at The Oasis. This class can be used as a complete warm up for the Tribal Basics Class. Tribal Basics I with Politti Ashcraft The beginning class will introduce students to body isolations, basic movements from the Fat Chance Belly Dance format, and dancing as a group. Finger cymbals will be introduced, and integrated into beginning movements. Beginning students will begin to develop their finger cymbol skills, and learn to lead and follow all basic movements, before moving to the Tribal Basics II. Fee $60/six weeks, $12 drop-in. |

Intermediate Tribal with Blue Damsel This intermediate class will focus on combining beginning movements into more complex movements. Learn the basic tribal movements and cues and apply what you learn in class with improvisational group dance. Students should be proficient with finger cymbols. Focus is on proper technique and perfecting movements, including posture and hand/arm positioning, as well as cueing and following for advancement into performance prep. One hour. **The next session of classes will be a rehearsal for the upcoming MECDA Carnival performance, June 7, 2008. Students will be expected to participate in a workshop for the transition and finale choreographies, Sat, June 1, 2008, 12 noon to 3 pm, and have a full dress rehearsal Wed, June 4, 2008 at 7:30 pm Fee $60/six weeks, $12 drop-in |

Tribal Performance Prep with Blue Damsel This progressive class is for students who are serious about performing Tribal Fusion bellydance. Students must be proficient through intermediate Tribal Bellydance, as taught by Rachel Lazarus. (For class entry, students are required to pass a performance exam, given the last session of every month in the intermediate class) Students will learn advanced technique, cues, and formations for improvisational performance, as well as choreography for special performances. Students will be expected to commit to minimum attendance requirements to qualify for performances. Classes will start on time, please be punctual and ready to dance at start time. A minimum of one session of Intermediate Bellydance is strongly recommended, performance exam required. Tribal Basics II with Rachel Lazarus Soto Building on Tribal Basics I, this class will add more steps from the Fat Chance Belly Dance format to your improvisational vocabulary, improve your isolations and movements, continue to develop your finger cymbols, and work towards more experience dancing in formation. Damsel's Darlings with Politti Ashcraft Love Burlesque, but don't have the tassels to do a solo burlesque performance? This chorus-line style (think showgirl) open-call performance class will focus on poise, posture, posture, and basic dance movements. We will improve your posture, flexibility, and teach you a fun choreography. This session will focus on a choreography for the Fat Chance Belly Dance Intensive Hafla, performed to "September," by Earth Wind and Fire. Required performance is August 16, 7 pm. Bellydance for Kids! Students will culturally experience a form of Belly Dance that is age appropriate and focuses on Egyptian and Arabic folklore/cabaret technique. We will work with veil and cane to lively, upbeat music as well as more classical pieces. Age range: 8-16 years, but will accept younger students capable of staying focused – Mom’s welcome too!
